Abstract/Program
“Sound and Silence” is an educational program comprising 20 films introducing composers from 20 countries around the world, produced by Katherine Adamov and the Polish Television, with Zygmunt Krauze, artistic consultant. John Cage begins each program with a mesostic poem dedicated to the featured composer, using as his source material language by the composer, and Rolf Liebermann ends each program with additional commentary. The six films that have been selected for screening are: Luciano BERIO (Italy), Aaron Jay KERNIS (USA), Krzystof PENDERECKI (Poland), Yannis XENAKIS (France), Judith WEIR (United Kingdom), and Chen YI (China).
